Description
I found this building in downtown Lake Charles, Louisiana. There was something about it that caught my eye and I snapped a shot from about a half a block away and continued on my way...
Later, when processing the photos of the day I looked closer at the photo and noticed the way the structure had been built. Multi layers of bricks make up its walls. The building had the looks that it had been re-built over the decades.
So... I went to the library and found out about the building with the brick wall that was 5 layers thick and I found the answer.
On the 333 page (last page) of City Director dated 1901, I found a advertisement for the "The Steam Bakery" from 1901.. Which is the address... In 1901 the building housed a a bakery.... The thick walls were where the ovens were....
Question answered. Makes sense now. 😊
Now the funny... The library is right across the street from the wall... I was speaking to another photographer who has a shop about a block away and I asked if he had ever noticed the wall...
He told me it's one of his favorite backgrounds for his shoots of people and showed me some shots he took of a shoot he had taken just yesterday of the guy leaning against the same wall... This is really getting weird...
I asked him if he knew what the building had originally been and he said no.. so I told him... He said he was going to have to tell his Dad.... Because his dad works in that building... now...
